Website Hosting
There are a number of website hosts, some free and others paid for. For an online business the latter is the most appropriate, but for the sake of discussion, we will look at the downside to using free hosting for your business website. The three main things to look for in a web host are:

Storage
How much disk storage do you get? It used to be enough to have 100MB of disk space, but anything more than 10GB is good for you. The more the better.

Bandwidth
The amount of data that you are allowed to transmit in and out of your domain can make or break your business. Look for 100 GB or more.

Support
Fairly taken for granted, but very crucial to help your business start off, run smooth and survive. Your host should provide 24hr support.

Free Hosting

Simply put, a free host can never deliver the benefits that you get from a paid host. Some of their downsides include:

  • Long sub-domain names that are not easy to remember
  • Low disk storage space (usually under 1GB)
  • No pop email support (usually no email at all)
  • Low bandwidth limits
  • No technical support
  • Forced banner ads

For a personal website these would not be a big problem, but for a business website, you need to stand out from the rest and have you won domain (www.yourbusinessname.com) with 99.9% up-time.
